The Lusaka City Council (LCC) Acting Town Clerk, Eng. Liftry Ndaba has expressed satisfaction with the renovations at Matebeto Market in Lusaka’s Long Acres area.
Eng. Ndaba said the market’s new look will reflect the local authority’s aspirations for a clean and green city while boosting businesses run by female entrepreneurs through the creation of a conducive trading space.
Eng. Ndaba praised institutions like Coca-Cola Beverages Zambia for their corporate social responsibility (CSR) in supporting the city’s development.
“I would like to thank Coca-Cola Beverages Zambia for their commitment and support. Through their corporate social responsibility, they have worked with us to give Long Acres Market a new life,” remarked Eng. Ndaba.
The Town Clerk emphasized the local authority’s mandate to manage markets and bus stations according to the Market and Bus Stations Act.
He said the Council will continue to collect levies and charges at Matebeto Market, channeling some funds towards maintaining the market’s standards.
The scope of works for the market facelift includes: paving the area surrounding the Matebeto stores, installing poles with name signs, replacing vinyl branding, painting surrounding shops and providing a shelter around the car wash area.
The Local Authority wishes to extend its gratitude to all cooperating partners, particularly Coca-Cola Beverages Zambia, for fostering community development within the city.
