Kalaluka (Smooth IK) – ZNBC Smooth Talk end of an era

After 24 years of showcasing international and Zambian renowned, upcoming, and those in between Zambia’s entertainment, sport, and many other disciplines the legendary Innocent Kalaluka (Smooth IK) hosted the final episode of the Smooth talk television show.
Different big names in Zambia’s media and entertainment circles have expressed different feelings about the show coming to an end.
In his farewell message on his facebook page, Mr Kalaluka said Smooth Talk has been far more than just a television show but a home, a platform for talent, and a bridge across the nation.
He said the show has produced 1,248 episodes since its inception.
“The time has come to take my final bow. Letting go of a journey that has defined so much of my life is nothing close to easy. I loved that show. But as the saying goes, everything has a season,” he said.
Kalaluka also extended gratitude to ZNBC management his production team, and every musician, actor, comedian, educator, and creative voice that featured on the show.
“To you the loyal viewers who welcomed me into your homes every week and made me who I am today.
Tonight (Friday, 28th August, 2026), we lower the curtain with one final special edition, a tribute to the journey, the memories, and the lives we touched along the way.”he said.
And Zambian singer, actress and songwriter Mirriam Mukupe popularly known as Mampi said Kalaluka opened doors for her when
She was a teenager.
“When Smooth IK gave me my very first TV interview on Smooth Talk. From that day on, he has always been there for me, showing up like the big brother I never knew I needed and guiding me through this industry,”Mampi said.
Mampi thanked him for his support, guidance and belief in her.
And Brian Mumba Kasoka Bwembya known professionally as B Flow recounted some of the memories he had on Smooth talk.
“What a painful night.😒 Who ever thought this chapter would end in 2026.
In the 2000s, we used to say “If you have not been on Smooth Talk, you are not yet a star!” Where does the time go? I can’t believe it’s almost 25 years already since a genius called Innocent Kalaluka aka Smooth IK conceived an idea called Smooth Talk. Little did we know it would become the biggest and longest standing entertainment talk show in the history of Zambian television,” B Flow said.
