Citizens First (CF) President Harry Kalaba has condemned the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) following the violent attack on Power FM Journalist Alphonso Kasongo.
Mr. Kalaba vowed to ensure the prosecution of the culprits ‘no matter how long it takes’.
Kalaba made the remarks in Lusaka when he visited Kasongo, who has not yet fully recovered after being assaulted by UPND cadres.
He was disappointed to learn that the suspects have been released on bail and accused the government of remaining silent on the matter.
Kalaba stated that it is saddening that UPND cadres could attack a journalist just days before Press Freedom Day.
‘Journalism is not a crime but a tool for democracy,’ he added.
Meanwhile, Kasongo noted that Mr. Kalaba is the only leader from any section of society to check on his plight.
He thanked the CF President for visiting him at his hiding place, noting that cadres are still looking for him.

Kasongo explained that he was invited by UPND to cover a party function, but the event turned violent between rival factions.
He said the cadres turned on him after accusing him of filming the violence resulting in internal injuries and a stiff neck.
Kasongo remarked that UPND has never called to check on his condition, and that the culprits he identified have been released on bail.
