National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) aspiring parliamentary candidate for Livingstone Constituency Mwewa Chilufya has pledged that his party, once elected into office, will compensate victims of human-wildlife conflict, accusing authorities of failing to protect affected communities.

Addressing residents during a political meeting, Mr Chilufya said many farmers and households had continued to suffer losses despite investing their time, money and water into agricultural production.

He alleged that government agencies responsible for wildlife management had failed to control animal movements and reduce destruction to crops and property.

“It is sad that the wildlife authorities have been failing to control wildlife,” Mr Chilufya said.

He argued that communities living near wildlife areas should not continue bearing losses without support and said compensation mechanisms would be introduced under an NRPUP administration.

Mr Chilufya further criticised the government’s broader performance, saying citizens had been shown the limits of what the current administration could deliver.

Meanwhile, NRPUP Livingstone Constituency Chairperson Lilian Nakazwe called on voters to support a change of government, blaming persistent load shedding for economic hardship.

Ms Nakazwe alleged that the electricity shortages had caused suffering among citizens and urged voters not to be influenced by recent improvements in power supply.

“They are playing with your mind. Let us change government. This government has inflicted a lot of suffering through load shedding,” she said.

She also encouraged eligible voters to safeguard their National Registration Cards (NRCs) and voter cards ahead of the elections.

At the same event, NRPUP official Ikuka Muleta urged people to support opposition figures Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu, saying this would bring meaningful development.

Mr Muleta claimed that citizens would not regret voting out the ruling party, which he accused of failing to meet public expectations.

Government and relevant authorities had not immediately responded to the statements by press time.
