The Ministry of Health has intensified the Mpox and Cholera response measures across the country to enhance the preparedness for the outbreaks.
Health Minister Dr. Elijah Julaki Muchima says health workers around the country are on high alert and are able to act swiftly in handling any suspected cases of the diseases.
Dr Muchima said this in Lusaka when he addressed the media on public health issues, during which he announced that the country has not recorded any new Cholera case after the Nakonde record.
Dr. Muchima explained that the last Cholera case in the district was discharged on Friday 10th January 2025 making a cumulative number of 18 Cholera cases in the district.

He said Nakonde district health local authorities have continued to provide targeted preventive interventions and ensuring that the public is adhering to the measures.
The health minister said while Nakonde has been the focal point, the Ministry of Health will not let down it’s guard and is in collaboration with it’s partners in implementing the Nationwide wash day interventions, prepositioning of medical supplies, surveillance and early warning systems, community engagement and vaccinations.
After the Press Briefing, Dr Muchima handed over 200 hand washing stations to all the ten provinces, emphasising the importance of cleanliness in the prevention of Cholera and other diseases.
The Minister expressed hope that the hand washing stations will assist the provinces in maintaining good practices of hand hygiene and contribute to the UPND government’s agenda of keeping the cities clean and healthy, thereby preventing Cholera and other diarrheal diseases. – Ministry of Health (MoH) Public Relations and Communications Unit.
