…We the people reject the rushed 77 bills: Call for Government of National Unity Through Peoples Pact

We, the people of Zambia, declare our firm rejection of the 77 Bills currently being rushed through Parliament, with only three sessions remaining before it closes and less than 100 days to the crucial Thursday, 13th August 2026 General Elections.

For decades, Zambians have demanded meaningful participation in the governance of our nation. Yet successive regimes have deliberately excluded citizens, clinging to colonial-era oppressive laws to silence dissent and entrench power.
Under President Hakainde Hichilema and the United Party for National Development (UPND), this oppression has not ended.
It has escalated.
Lawfare and gerrymandering are now being deployed as tools to manipulate outcomes, weaken opposition, and deny Zambians their constitutional right to free and fair representation.
The Public Gathering Bill and Electoral Process Bill are classic evidence of these _mingalato_: calculated legal maneuvers designed to restrict assembly, tilt the electoral playing field, and entrench incumbency under the guise of reform.
The rushed 77 Bills are not reform.
They are an excuse for further oppression, tabled without adequate consultation, scrutiny, or consent from the people.
To legislate in haste this close to a national election undermines democracy itself.
Therefore, we call for the immediate withdrawal of these 77 Bills and demand a new path forward.
None is compared to PEOPLES PACT to initiate a Government of National Unity (GNU) that restores power to citizens, repeals oppressive colonial laws, and guarantees transparent, inclusive governance for all Zambians.
We will not be governed by laws we did not consent to.
We will not accept elections shaped by gerrymandering and lawfare.
The time for a true PEOPLES PACT is now.
