The leader of Zambia’s opposition United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) has begun delivering on pledges made at a major conference on 15th November 2025.
As of Sunday 5th April 2026, UPPZ President Charles Chanda commensed purchase of party mobilisation vehicles and smartphones for provincial party officials.
At that conference, held at Villa Elizabetha Lodge, 250 delegates from all ten provinces attended in person with an additional 250 joining as online delegates.
The meeting began with a review of the party’s structure, Mr. Chanda led that process and was then re-elected as party president until 2030.
In his victory speech, Chanda called on members to forgive past mistakes.

Chanda said: “Forget the past. Live for today. Focus on the future.”
Then Chanda looked ahead to the 2026 general elections.
Chanda promised that every provincial structure would receive one vehicle for moving around and mobilising voters.
Chanda promised smartphones for all provincial executive leaders.

During the conference, members brought up several concerns.
Some asked who would pay for fuel and repairs for the new vehicles.
Online delegates from remote areas complained about poor internet. They said it was hard to follow virtual meetings.
Others worried about unity between those who attend in person and those who join online.
Party leaders promised to look into all these issues.
Now, five months later, Chanda has started acting on his vehicle and phone promise.

Party sources say the first vehicles have been ordered.
Smartphones are being distributed to provincial executives on a rolling basis.
The party has not yet given details on fuel or maintenance costs.
But members say they are encouraged that the president has begun working on what he promised. – UPPZ MEDIA TEAM
