PS Chama Fumba pledges Government support to ‘Young Talent’
MINISTRY of Youth, Sports and Arts Permanent Secretary-in-charge of Arts Chama FUMBA says Government supports artistic talent among young people as there is potential to create wealth through skills development, reports *Francis Lungu*
As much as Government is rendering support for the development of arts among young people, Mr. Fumba has urged youths involved in music and other artistic endeavours to work hard and remain focused.
He was speaking in Lusaka on Friday, December 30, 2022 when he officiated at the end-of-year talent show organised by the Russian Center of Science and Culture, Russian House.
“Government supports talent among it’s young people but I would like to encourage young people to work hard. There is no substitute to hard work,” Mr Fumba said.
Fumba has since called on other stakeholders to partner with the Government in helping talent development among young people.
Earlier, Russian Center of Science and Culture director Alexandr Asiminov said the center had continued in 2022 working towards providing opportunities and knowledge in different fields to young Zambians.
Mr Asiminov said the Russian House will continue with the gesture of supporting young people in 2023.
The end-of-year talent show witnessed Russian House students churning out an array of singing and dancing performances in Russian, English and some Zambian local languages, mostly themed around Christmas.
Some students were awarded in different categories for their outstanding performances during the year of their engagement at the Russian House.
Others were also given presents for their entertaining individual dancing skills during the talent show.
The Federal Government of Russia has over the years through the Russian House in Lusaka been providing scholarships to deserving Zambian school-leavers to study in different science-related fields in many Russian universities.
For the 2023 academic calendar, the Russian Government has increased to 160 scholarship slots for Zambian students from the previous 140 provided in 2022.
