President Xi Jinping stated: Over the past year, we have maintained good exchanges and held a successful meeting in Busan, which set the course for Sino‑U.S. relations and was welcomed by our two peoples and the international community.

Deeply committed to Sino‑U.S. relations, I am ready to work with you in this new year to continue steering the great ship of Sino‑U.S. relations forward in stability while weathering storms, and to accomplish more great and positive things.

The United States has its concerns and China has its own. China keeps its word and honors its commitments through action. As long as both sides work in the same direction in the spirit of equality, respect, and mutual benefit, they will be able to find solutions that address each other’s concerns.

In 2026, both countries will have important agendas. China will begin implementing its 15th Five‑Year Plan, and the United States will celebrate the 250th anniversary of its independence. The two countries will respectively host the APEC leaders’ meeting and the G20 Summit. Both sides must, in line with the consensus we have reached, strengthen dialogue and communication, properly manage differences, and expand pragmatic cooperation. One must always do good, even the smallest, and refrain from doing evil, even the slightest. By advancing step by step, China and the United States can build mutual trust and find the right path of coexistence, making 2026 a year of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win‑win cooperation for the two major countries.

President Donald Trump stated: The United States and China are both great countries, and U.S.‑China relations are the most important bilateral relations in the world. I have a great relationship with President Xi Jinping and I respect him. Under our guidance, the two countries have had good interactions in the economic and trade fields. I welcome China’s success.
