Methodological events “Modern methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language” in African countries: Zambia
On November 19, the third part of a humanitarian and educational project aimed at promoting the Russian language in African countries ended in Lusaka. The program was carried out with the support of Rossotrudnichestvo and was organized by Zlatoust educational and publishing center, as well as the Russian House in Zambia. At the opening ceremony, the participants were welcomed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Zambia Azim Yarakhmedov and Director of the Russian House in Zambia Alexander Anisimov.
Today, more and more young people in Zambia are striving to study in Russian universities. A small Russian-speaking diaspora also try to preserve the native language of their children. For three days, about 40 participants from different cities of Zambia, as well as from Uganda, South Africa and Madagascar, actively studied modern methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language to children and adults, got acquainted with the results of the latest scientific research on second language acquisition, and also with new educational materials published by Russian publishing houses.
In numerous trainings, master classes, and discussions, the teachers could evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed methodological techniques. They were able to observe the work of Russian colleagues in an open lesson. For the first time, many saw how effective teaching without an intermediary language can be.
The organizers of the program paid special attention to the development of teamwork skills, methods of effective interaction in a group, and ways of developing soft skills.
In their feedback, the participants emphasized how useful the content of the program was, its richness and diversity, exciting interactive tasks, the high level of invited experts, punctuality and impeccable organization of the event.
The participants were very impressed by the Russian House in Lusaka, its creative atmosphere and enthusiasm of its workers. As one participant wrote, “It’s a pity that we don’t have such a cool center in Republic of South Africa.”
Many people noted that in order to promote the Russian language in African countries, it is necessary to hold such meetings on a regular basis, it is necessary to open Russian schools, as well as departments at universities.
The participants expressed gratitude to the Russian Centre in Lusaka, to the Russian experts and all the colleagues for an opportunity to take part in such an event. They hope to keep in touch, so they can keep on learning and exchanging experience with each other. Telegram channel “Russian language and literature teachers in Africa” will make sure that the participants will not loose contact.
