Chief Mkhanya of the Kunda people in Mambwe District, Eastern Province, has called on Patriotic Front (PF) presidential hopeful Makebi Zulu to prioritise national unity as he seeks the country’s highest office.

The traditional leader stressed that leadership must be inclusive, adding that anyone aspiring to lead Zambia should aim to unite citizens across political, ethnic, and regional lines.
“Leadership comes from God,” Chief Mkhanya remarked, urging Makebi Zulu to remain prayerful and to seek divine guidance throughout his political journey.
The Chief made these remarks during a courtesy call by Makebi Zulu at the royal palace in the Malambo area of Mambwe District.

He encouraged the PF presidential aspirant to practise patience, listen to the voices of ordinary citizens, and work towards easing the hardships faced by many Zambians.
“Leadership is meant to make people’s lives easier and better,” Chief Mkhanya added.
In a symbolic act of blessing and traditional endorsement, the Chief invited Makebi Zulu to sit on the royal throne and applied white powder to his face — a cultural gesture signifying blessings and the release of his grandson to serve the nation.
Meanwhile, Chief Mkhanya expressed concern over what he described as restrictions to his freedom stemming from his familial ties with Makebi Zulu, whom he confirmed is his grandson.
Makebi Zulu was accompanied by former PF deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri, former religious affairs minister Godfridah Sumaili, former mines minister Richard Musukwa, former DMMU coordinator Chanda Kabwe, and other PF officials.
