Central Government procrastination on Monday 23rd January 2023 Consent in Principle to table the long-awaited Tobacco Control Bill has prompted Tobacco Free Association of Zambia (TOFAZA) Executive Director Brenda Chitindi to seek clarity from Vice President Reverend Witner Kapembwa Mutale-Nalumango.
In a telephone interview, en route to a 3rd – 5th November 2024 Global Heart Hub- 4th Annual Summit- Patient, Connect and Network- Dublin Ireland, themed: Cardiovascular Disease: Living with Multiple Conditions, Mrs. Chitindi confirmed having written to Vice President Reverend Mutale-Nalumango to intervene.
Mrs. Chitindi is confident that as a mother and female guardian, Rev. Mutale-Nalumango will inquire as to which structure or ministerial grouping is siding with Tobacco Industry, to delay domestication of the United Nations World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (UN-WHO-FCTC), which Zambia ratified on Friday 23rd May 2008.
“As Government line ministries continue to point fingers, Chitindi found it prudent to petition Rev. Mutale-Nalumango.
“As a Government Leader who should care for the citizens by protecting them from the devastating health of the poisonous tobacco products,” wrote Chitindi.
