Emergency public flood safety alert – Kanchibiya, Chinsali and Kasama Districts

Lusaka, Wednesday 11th February 2026 – The Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) advises communities in Kanchibiya, Chinsali, and Kasama Districts of Muchinga and Northern Provinces that flooding is expected following rising water levels in major rivers. Residents in the affected areas must remain alert and take immediate action to protect themselves and their property.
The WARMA informs the public and concerned stakeholders that flooding is expected on the Chambeshi River in Kanchibiya District between 14th and 20th February 2026, affecting villages located near the Mpika–Kasama Road Bridge.
Meanwhile, the Lubu River in Chinsali District will reach peak flood levels on 11th February 2026, impacting Mbao, Kalwela, Mweye, and surrounding areas near Lubwa Mission along the riverbanks.

In Kasama District, the Lukulu River will peak on 14th February 2026, affecting Kalyalya, Sausande, and nearby settlements along the Kasama–Luwingu Road Bridge.
The Kambwititi River will also reach peak levels on the same day, impacting Mumbimfumu, Chokolokoso, and surrounding settlements.
WARMA officers are already on the ground monitoring the situation and working closely with other stakeholders to respond promptly. Residents in all affected areas are urged to safeguard property, avoid riverbanks, and move to higher ground immediately.
