WELL DONE: Why Doreen Sefuke Mwamba stands out as one of Zambia’s best female ‘Cabinet Ministers?’

Last week, Ministry of Community Development and Social Services (MCDSS) Doreen Sefuke Mwamba revealed to the nation that she was retiring from public service and she was not available for consideration for any political office.

However, her message became an unexpected centre of misinformation with others saying she had resigned before the dissolution of Parliament in May this year.

That aside, Mrs. Mwamba has been at the helm of the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services for the last five years.

Here are some of public policies she was overseeing at the Ministry, critical to national development;
1. Infrastructure Development: Construction of over 2,800 classroom blocks, 164 health facilities, and 206 maternity annexes, improving access to education and healthcare.
2. Empowerment Initiatives: Support for 8,766 youth groups and 18,282 women groups through grants, and 1,506 youth enterprises and 1,557 women enterprises through loans.
3. Social Cash Transfer: Over 1.3 million households benefiting from financial support, injecting K355 million into vulnerable families.
4. Water and Sanitation: 1,792 boreholes and 531 water schemes constructed, improving access to clean water.
5. Education Support: Over 670,000 desks provided, and 82,652 pupils supported with secondary boarding bursaries.
6. Sustainable wetlands and Rain feed agriculture projects: Over 1 million vulnerable but viable small scale farmers are benefiting from this two agriculture projects thereby contributing to food security at household level towards alleviating of poverty.
Well done, Mrs. Mwamba, you demonstrated ability to deliver and you strived to ensure that taxpayers money and donor funds are applied prudently to the benefit of the Zambian people.
