The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) president Blake Mulala has resolved not to hold meetings, workshops or conferences in hotels that do not allow workers to belong to trade unions.
The decision was made during the federation’s 10th board meeting held recently.
Mr. Mulala said the labour body will not conduct union business meetings, elective conferences or any other events with hotels that deny workers the right to unionise.

“The ZCTU has resolved that it will not hold any union business meetings, workshops, elective conferences or any other events with hotels that do not allow workers to belong to unions,” Mulala said.
Mulala said the move is aimed at addressing violations of workers’ rights in the hospitality industry.
“This decision is aimed at addressing the rampant violations of workers’ rights, particularly in the hospitality industry,” Mulala said.
Mulala said the congress will continue working with employers who comply with Zambia’s labour laws.
“The ZCTU will continue to collaborate with employers who respect and adhere to Zambia’s labour laws,” Mulala said.
Mulala added that the federation will expose employers with poor labour practices.
“The Congress will continue to name and shame employers with poor labour practices while urging those that are not compliant to follow the law,” Mulala said.

Mulala called on all stakeholders to respect workers’ rights.
“We call upon all stakeholders to respect workers’ rights and adhere to the country’s labour laws,” Mulala said.
