National Revolution Party (NRP) leader Dr. Cosmo Mumba is urging the Council of Elders to convene an inclusive political party meeting involving all President and Secretary Generals (SGs) or General Secretaries (GSs) at which a flag bearer will be chosen.

Responding to a Thursday 5th February 2026 Ibex Hill Lusaka Council of Elders meeting hosted by first female Republican Vice President of Zambia, Ms. Inonge Mutukwa-Wina, former second female Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) General Secretary (GS) Reverend Dr. Suzanne M’membe-Matale, scholar Lawrence Mwelwa and others, Dr. Mumba advised convenors not to segregate participation as all political actors are equal before the law.
Dr. Mumba regretted that participation preference was being restricted to perceived ‘big’ parties while whose assumed to be insignificant are being sidelined
Dr. Mumba cautioned that failure to exhibit an inclusive consultative process would invariably compel those left out to become confrontational.
“I wish to respond to the meeting that is being called by the former vice president Ms. Inonge Mutukwa-Wina, to create a platform where unity exists and not to disregard other candidates by calling other political parties they think are big. As political parties, we propose a Summit of all registered Opposition Political Parties to be represented by President’s, SGs and GSs. In our view , such a meeting will make sense as a decision will be biding otherwise, we shall also regroup start fighting the Council of Elders! Convenors must extend invitations to the two Patriotic Front (PF) Tonse Alliances (Brian Mundubile’s and Given Lubinda’s). If this is not done, we shall ask a lot of parties not to attend?,” said Dr. Mumba.
Dr. Mumba reiterated a need for all registered opposition political parties to participate at the Council of Elders Indaba as sign of unity of purpose.
