Alick Nyawali: A fresh face for Kasenengwa’s future

IN the heart of Kasenengwa, a district of Eastern Province, Zambia, made independent from Chipata District in 2018, with a population of 155,565 people, according to the 2022 National Census, a young leader has emerged, carrying the weight of his community on his shoulders.
Alick Nyawali is considering a bid for Council Chairperson in the 2026 general election, driven by a passion to uplift the very village that raised him.
Growing up without a father, Alick’s life was marked by hardship. His mother, Rhoda Nyawali, and his grandparents, Daniel Nyawali and Florence Ngoma, instilled in him the values of resilience and determination.

“I was raised by my grandparents from my mother’s side since my father died in my early childhood. He died when I was three years old,” Alick recalls. This experience has shaped his commitment to family and community.
Alick’s roots run deep in Kasenengwa, as he was born and bred in Muma village, Chief Mishoro, and some of his relatives still call it home.
He excelled academically, attending Katondo Primary, Langa Primary, St Anni’s, and Chipata Day School. He later pursued Water Engineering at Natural Resources Development College (NRDC), on Lusaka’s Great East Road, equipping him with technical expertise.
Professionally, Alick has made his mark. He has worked at Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) and currently serves as an Agriculture Irrigation Engineer at the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), driving innovation in farming practices.
As a qualified Water Engineer, Alick brings hands-on expertise to drive Kasenengwa’s development.

Alick’s faith is his foundation. A dedicated Christian and member of the Seventh Day Adventist church, he lives by the values of compassion, integrity, and service.
“My faith guides me to serve others with love and humility,” Alick Nyawali says.
Alick’s story is Kasenengwa’s story. He understands the challenges facing the community because he’s lived them. “I know what it’s like to struggle,” he says. “But I also know what it takes to overcome those struggles.”
As Council Chairperson, Alick promises to prioritize infrastructure improvements, focusing on roads, water, and sanitation to uplift living standards in Kasenengwa.

“I will drive local economic growth through agriculture and small business support, creating opportunities for our youth. Strengthening community engagement and participation in decision-making will be key, ensuring the voice of every Kasenengwa resident is heard. And through transparent and accountable governance, I will work to build trust and deliver tangible results,” he promised.
Alick’s superpower is his ability to listen and collaborate. “I’m a people person,” he smiles. “I believe in working with the community, not above them.”
If given the opportunity to serve, Alick promises to prioritize Kasenengwa’s needs.
“I want to be held accountable for delivering tangible results,” he declares. “I want to leave a legacy of hope and progress.”
Alick Nyawali is more than a candidate; he is a son of Kasenengwa, a leader, and a visionary.
