Human Rights and Good Governance Activist Astridah Chipowe is delighted after a peer,
Buumba Malamba led whistle-blowers to nab a male Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) perpetrator on account of sexually abusing his two (2) year-old daughter in Kafue District of Lusaka Province.

Following a tip-off, from a Good Samaritan, Ms. Malambo sought help from the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) and Zambia Police Service (ZPS) which resulted in a named biological father being arrested.

Unfortunately, the child, now in a Safe Home, was found with gonorrhea and tested positive for Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

“A Good Samaritan sent me an alert of a two (2) year-old girl being sexually abused by a biological father and her vagina had started rottinh. We went in with YWCA and Zambia Police Service and arrested the ‘abusive father’.The child was found with Gonorrhea and unfortunately tested positive for HIV, because of the Good Samaritan, the little girl is living a better life at a safe home. This 16 days of activism and World HIV/Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) Day, think about the many children whose lives you can help by simply anonymously reporting the cases you notice or inboxing us. It takes the whole village to raise a child,” Ms. Malambo wrote on her Facebook page.

When reached for a comment, Ms. Chipowe applauded Ms. Malambo on her pro-active intervention.

“I love the work of Buumba Malamba as she always steps up to help the traumatized young girls or women facing GBV or have been raped.
This shows how the community should step up and report any cases beyond this time of 16 days of activism against GBV. Society must emulate the work Ms. Malamba does to speak up and expose any GBV cases in our community to protect the young girls and women as GBV Survivors,” prayed Ms. Chipowe.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign led annually by United Nations (UN) Women, which ran from Monday 25th November, 2024 (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to Tuesday 10th December 2024 (Human Rights Day).
