THE 7 LAYERS OF ARCHITECTURE AND WHAT THEY MEAN.

By Prof. Edgar Ng’oma – Philosopher

After understanding the purpose of life, it is important that we understand its meaning.
Many people live without knowing why they exist, what their purpose is, or what life truly means.
Let me unpack the meaning of life, which I believe is hidden in the design of creation.
When an architect builds a house, his purpose is reflected in the blueprint. In the same way, let us examine the blueprint of life.

Prof. Edgar Ng’oma – Philosopher
  1. THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE UNIVERSE SAYS: YOU WERE MADE FOR ORDER, NOT CHAOS.
Look up! The sun rises with remarkable regularity. The Earth tilts at approximately 23.5 degrees, a feature that helps determine our seasons. The moon influences our oceans, while the laws of physics govern the universe.
The remarkable conditions that permit life have inspired philosophical and scientific discussions about cosmic fine-tuning and the Anthropic Principle.

MEANING:
From a spiritual perspective, the Architect of creation is a God of extraordinary wisdom, precision and order.
Therefore, your life should reflect order: moral order, family order, spiritual order and social order.
Chaos, lies, corruption, adultery, tribal hatred and violence destroy the harmony of human existence.
You were designed for ORDER, not CHAOS.

  1. THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE BODY SAYS: YOU WERE MADE AS BOTH DUST AND DIVINITY.
Your body is composed of elements found in the Earth. You contain water, minerals, iron, calcium and other substances that also exist in nature.
Yet human beings possess remarkable abilities to reason, imagine, love, forgive, create and contemplate eternity.
A human being is more than a collection of physical materials.

MEANING:
You were made to be a BRIDGE between the physical and the spiritual.
You are here to connect justice, love, forgiveness and wisdom with everyday human life.
You are not simply on Earth to accumulate wealth, eat, sleep and eventually die.
You are here to bring the values of heaven DOWN to Earth.

  1. THE ARCHITECTURE OF TIME SAYS: YOU WERE MADE TO LEAVE, NOT TO STAY.
    Everything in life is temporary.
Your childhood passes. Your youth disappears. Your physical strength gradually declines. Your possessions eventually pass into other hands.
    Your body itself is temporary.
A baby tooth falls out. A placenta is discarded after birth. Every seven years, many cells in your body have been replaced, although not all cells renew at the same rate.
Nothing material belongs to us forever.

MEANING:
This life was never intended to be our final destination. It is a corridor through which we pass.
A corridor has meaning because it connects one place to another.
King Solomon, despite his extraordinary wealth and wisdom, reflected on the temporary nature of earthly possessions.
In Ecclesiastes, he repeatedly speaks about the vanity of worldly pursuits.
Therefore, the meaning of life is PREPARATION, not accumulation.
The question is not merely:
“How much did you acquire in the corridor?”
The greater question is:
“What did you become before entering the next room?”

  1. THE ARCHITECTURE OF PAIN SAYS: YOU WERE MADE TO BE FORGED, NOT PAMPERED.
Look at how life develops strength.
A muscle grows stronger when challenged by resistance.
A seed must undergo transformation before becoming a plant.
Gold is refined through intense heat.
A child develops resilience through challenges and learning.
Human beings also experience hardship, disappointment, rejection, betrayal and suffering.

MEANING:
The meaning of life is not simply COMFORT. It is FORMATION.
You were not placed on Earth merely to enjoy pleasure and avoid difficulties.
Challenges can become opportunities to develop patience, wisdom, compassion, discipline and courage.
Many Zambians have endured political persecution, imprisonment, business losses, poverty and betrayal.
These experiences can either destroy our character or strengthen our determination.
The question is:
“Will the fire make you BITTER or BETTER?”
That choice is part of life’s meaning.

  1. THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE HEART SAYS: YOU WERE MADE FOR LOVE, AND LOVE IS THE FINAL MEASURE.
Here is one of the greatest mysteries of human existence.
A person can possess enormous wealth, political power, fame and influence, yet remain deeply unhappy.
Meanwhile, another person with very little material wealth may experience profound happiness through love, family and meaningful relationships.
    Why?
Because the human heart longs for affection, belonging, connection and purpose.
No amount of money can fully replace genuine human love.

MEANING:
The final examination of life will not simply be:
“How much wealth did you accumulate?”
It will be:
“How much good did you do?”
“Whom did you help?”
“Whom did you forgive?”
“Whose suffering did you relieve?”
Love for your wife, husband, children, neighbours and fellow human beings gives life its moral significance.
The Constitution of Zambia, the Bible and the Qur’an, despite their different purposes and teachings, all recognise important values concerning human dignity, responsibility and the treatment of others.
The ultimate moral lesson is LOVE.

  1. THE ARCHITECTURE OF CONSCIENCE SAYS: YOU WERE MADE TO BE JUDGED.
Why do you sometimes feel guilty after doing something wrong, even when nobody knows what happened?
You may steal money and escape arrest, yet your conscience continues troubling you.
You may insult, betray or mistreat someone and later experience regret.
This inner moral awareness is what we call CONSCIENCE.
It reminds us that our actions carry moral consequences.

MEANING:
Life has meaning because human beings are ACCOUNTABLE.
Our choices matter.
Our words matter.
Our treatment of others matters.
From a religious perspective, moral accountability extends beyond earthly courts and human institutions.
You may escape judgment from State House, Parliament, the police or the courts, but spiritual belief teaches that nobody escapes ultimate accountability before the Creator.
Therefore, live as though every decision matters, because it does.

  1. THE FINAL BLUEPRINT: THE MEANING OF LIFE IN ONE SENTENCE.
Having examined these six layers of creation, we can now bring everything together.

THE MEANING OF LIFE IS THIS:
“The meaning of life is that you, a temporary bridge of dust and divinity, were placed in a temporary corridor of time, to be forged by pain and choice into a being of love, order and truth, who will steward creation, learn to know his Creator, and prepare himself for eternity.”

YOU ARE NOT HERE TO:
❌ Just eat, drink and die like other living creatures.
❌ Accumulate wealth and leave everything behind.
❌ Suffer endlessly without discovering meaning in your experiences.

YOU ARE HERE TO BECOME:
✅ A person of truth in a society where lies have become normal.

✅ A person of peace in a nation struggling with division.

✅ A person of integrity in a society challenged by corruption.

✅ A person of love where hatred and bitterness have taken root.

✅ A person who contributes to healing, justice and reconciliation.
This is why Zambia needs a National Truth and Reconciliation Commission (NTRC) — to help transform a divided society into a united nation.

Our national motto, ONE ZAMBIA, ONE NATION, must become more than words. It must become a way of life.

THE ULTIMATE MEANING OF LIFE IS TRANSFORMATION.

God did not create you merely to remain as you are. In my understanding of the divine purpose, He created you to grow towards His likeness in character, wisdom, love and righteousness.
And that, my brother and sister, is why life — with all its challenges, mysteries, disappointments and opportunities — can be so terribly beautiful.
Life is not merely about what you HAVE. It is about WHO YOU BECOME.
