Thursday 28th May, 2026 Press Statement
Good morning my comrade party officials, distinguished guests, members of the press.
Illegal UNIP leadership and collections of rentals from UNIP properties by masquerades
On behalf of the party president and the general membership of UNIP, I would like to inform the nation through you that the United National Independence Party UNIP is legitimately led by Lt Col Henry Muyoba Rtd, a fact that is supported by the current records at the Chief Registrar of Societies.

The authentic Col Muyoba led top brass, members of the secretariat and the 10 provincial chairpersons who are members of the UNIP Central Committee, unanimously resolved to go into an alliance with the UPND and subsequently the full secretariat meeting further resolved to back, support and canvass votes for the current head of state who is the UPND flag bearer H.E. Mr Hakainde Hichilema in the August 13th polls.
This decision was communicated to the general public at our last press briefing and remains the official UNIP position.
Anyone else or indeed any group of people who may present themselves as UNIP presidential candidates should be ignored and condemned with the contempt they deserve.

Regrettably, despite this glaring position and the countless court rulings to the same effect, some individuals who were rightly expelled from the party, have continued to masquerade as leaders of UNIP who went to the extent of attempting to hold an illegal, illegitimate and unlawful convergence which they christened ‘a congress’.
Fortunately, the alert state police swiftly descended on the group, which did not obtain a police permit, at Zani Muone where they had gathered and dispersed the people in attendance.
As if that was not enough, they persisted with their mischief and gathered yet again at an unknown location in the dead of the night around midnight to be specific where they reportedly held another inconsequential and illegal elective meeting.
Members of the press, we have incontestable evidence that this same group has been illegally receiving monies in form of rentals from multiple UNIP owned properties.

They are using these funds to carry out these clandestine meetings and activities. I wish to make it known that we have commenced litigation proceedings which will take on the criminality angle considering the gravity of the offences the group continues to commit.
From our sources we hear thirty million kwacha from 2023 to 2026 has been illegally collected.
Incidentally, on the 21st and 22nd May, 2026 these masquerades failed to file their presidential nominations documents as UNIP presidential candidates at the ECZ nominations centre at Mulungushi International Conference Centre.
In their withdrawal letter to the ECZ dated 22nd May, 2026 they insinuated that they failed because the records have been tampered with at Department of the Registrar of Societies.
The police must move in and prove if really records were tampered with for the law to take its course.
Contrary to their insinuation, the truth of the matter is their purported earlier illegal general congress held from 2nd to 4th April, 2021 and the recent one which was held during the cover of darkness at midnight at unknown venue which they draw strength from were both illegally conducted outside the UNIP constitution and injunction 2019/HP/1237.
We would like to pay tribute to the Department of the Registrar of Societies under the Ministry of Home Affairs for acting professionally and fairly in resolving the UNIP leadership dispute based on cause 2019/HP/1237.
You will be interested to know that on the 8th of May 2024 the Chief Registrar of Societies called for a meeting between Lt Col Henry Muyoba and Bishop T Mwamba to resolve the dispute regarding the two factions congresses – the illegal extraordinary congress of 2nd to 4th April, 2021 which elected Bishop T Mwamba and Mike Kaira and the 6th to 7th May, 2021 joint congress which elected Lt Col Henry Muyoba (Retired) and team.
Two congresses were subjected to scrutiny during this meeting where Bishop T Mwamba and Kenneth Kaira failed to provide the paper trail to prove the authenticity of their congress, however, Lt Col Henry Muyoba (Retired) managed to provided the paper trail promptly of his joint congress to the Department of the Registrar of Societies during the meeting.
In the spirit of natural justice the Chief Registrar of Societies gave Bishop T Mwamba 20 more days in which to provide proof of his congress to the Department of the Registrar of Societies before the department could make a final determination as to who the legitimate leadership of UNIP was.
Bishop T Mwamba and Mr Kenneth Kaira failed to provide evidence after the 20 days ultimatum elapsed. However, their lawyers LM Chambers wrote a letter to the Chief Registrar of Societies whose contents we are not privy to.
A few days after the Department of the Chief Registrar of Societies deliberated on this letter, the department replied to this letter and the reply was copied to Rtd Lt Col Henry Muyoba as UNIP president accordingly.
In her reply to LM Chambers, the Chief Registrar of Societies informed LM Chambers that her department had proceeded to recognise the congress of 6th to 7th May, 2021 which elected Lt Col Henry Muyoba (Retired) as UNIP president.
The Chief Registrar of Societies further advised LM Chambers to sue the Attorney General of Zambia if they were aggrieved with the decision of the Department of the Registrar of Societies.
The information we have shows that Bishop T Mwamba and LM Chambers proceeded to seek judicial review in the High Court for Zambia and they lost the case.
Finally, we would like to appeal to the Zambia Police Service to investigate these illegal leaders who are masquerading as UNIP leaders regarding their source of funds within and outside the country which they are using to destabilise UNIP in particular and the nation in general.
In conclusion we would like to assure all our members countrywide to remain united and behind the legitimate leadership of the UNIP president Lt Col Henry Muyoba (Retired).
Also, we would like to assure the UPND party and its alliance partners that as UNIP we have come up with countrywide campaign programs to visit all the ten provinces to drum support and votes for the Republican President Mr Hakainde Hichilema (HH) so that he wins this elections with a landslide victory.
UNIP is supporting HH on principle because HH is following and upholding Dr Kenneth David Kaunda’s legacy and policies which espouse UNIP.
