In January 2026, the Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre (KGRTC) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese company Hunan Chendian Development Shareholding Co. Ltd. for the development of a 10MW solar park in Namalundu, Kafue Gorge.
Key details of the partnership include:
Signatories: The agreement was signed by KGRTC CEO Davies Chinkusu and Hunan Chendian General Manager Lei Yunming at the 2025 China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE).
Purpose: The 10MW solar park will serve as both a renewable energy source and a live training facility for solar PV system design, installation, operation, and maintenance.
Significance: KGRTC Board Chairperson Patricia Musiya stated the project aims to diversify Zambia’s energy mix, promote local partnerships in energy, and is expected to be commissioned by mid-2026.
Note: This is a 2025/2026 update distinct from the larger, historic Sinohydro PowerChina deals regarding the main Kafue Gorge Lower Hydro project.
