Celim Zambia, Africa Call Zambia and Association Pope John 23rd has donated mealie meal for families in Kanyama affected by food insecurity, focusing on those with children and youth with disabilities.
This initiative was funded by the European Union with a total amount of €25,000 (approx. ZMW 720,000) as part of the EDU-CARE PROJECT, which brought much-needed support to vulnerable households facing rising food prices and challenges brought by ongoing drought.
Through such projects, the EU empowers children with disabilities, gaining access to daily nutrition, supporting educational development, and improving their overall well-being.
Together, we stand and say, “Disability is not inability.”
Yesterday, in the presence of the PS Ministry of Education Dr. Joe Kamoko, the European Union Ambassador to Zambia, H.E. Karolina Stasiak and Zambia Correctional Service Director Ndila, the distribution of mealie-meal for vulnerable families with children with disabilities began in Kanyama, Lusaka.
CELIM Zambia, Africa Call Zambia, and the Association Pope John XXIII organized this initiative, funded by the European Union as part of the EDU-CARE project.
The first 900 bags were distributed in 5 government and community schools in Kanyama, with many more to be distributed in the coming months across an additional 5 schools in Ndola and Lusaka, for a total of around 3,000 bags of mealie-meal.
Thanks to this intervention, we are ensuring access to daily nutrition, supporting educational development, and improving the overall well-being of approximately 600 children and youth with disabilities in Zambia.
CELIM has been operating in Zambia since 1981 implementing social projects, protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, children on the move, minors and adults in conflict with the law, and sustainable agriculture projects in Zambia. – Supreme Times Zambia (STZ)
