Dr. Charity Musamba predicts that fewer women will contest the August 2021 General Elections

DEVELOPMENT Analyst Charity Musamba predicts that adoption of women aspirants by political parties to contest in the August 2021 General Elections will be the lowest in the history of Zambia.
A worried Dr. Musamba lamented in an interview with Kwilanzi Newspaper Zambia Limited in Lusaka that gender imbalance recorded at intra-party level left much to be desired.
Dr. Musamba says Political Parties in Zambia must be ashamed that they have reversed the great investment women organisations have undertaken to encourage females to participate in politics, through retrogressive Parliamentary Grade 12 Certificate as a leadership entry requirement and lack of political will to adopt her peers.
Dr. Musamba says that it will be difficult for Zambia to meet the Southern African Development Community (SADC) 50/50 gender parity as enshrined in the SADC protocol.
And Dr. Musamba says though women are the largest voters gender category in this election registered by the Electoral Commission of Zambia, it will be difficult for them to participate as long as the issue of political violence is not resolved.
