Celebrating African Innovation Through Food Culture
Theme: Showcasing Innovation in African Gastronomy
Africa’s story is rich, vibrant, and deeply rooted in culture — and no medium tells that story more authentically than food. On the evening of Friday, 14th November 2025, culinary excellence, culture, and innovation converged at Queen Bee’s Restaurant, Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) for the official launch of A Bite of Africa Magazine — a bold new platform that celebrates African cuisine, people, and creativity.
The launch marked a historic moment in Africa’s food media landscape. More than a magazine, A Bite of Africa is a movement — one that amplifies African voices, profiles authentic flavours, and positions local cuisine as a global brand. From chefs and culinary innovators to farmers, restaurants, and food entrepreneurs, the magazine will elevate African gastronomy to the global stage while celebrating the rich diversity that defines Zambia and our continent.
A Bite of Africa Magazine aims to:
Showcase local cuisine and Africa’s unique food heritage
Profile chefs, waiters, farmers, and food innovators
Promote culinary entrepreneurship and skills development
Highlight food technology, innovation, and sustainability
Connect Africa’s food story with global markets and audiences.

The Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Chipota Mutati MP, officiated at the launch and he highlighted the power of food as a cultural identity and an engine for innovation. He emphasized that African cuisine has the potential to become a global brand if deliberately promoted.
“Food and taste express who we are as Africans. I see creativity, innovation, and transformation in what Bite of Africa is doing — the same ingredients that drive science and technology,” Mr. Mutati said.
Mutati affirmed Government’s willingness to partner with the initiative, proposing that African culinary heritage be integrated into national skills training curricula.
“We want you to work with us to revise curricula in our institutions to include African foods. You will be creators of that change,” said Mutati.
Mutati encouraged collective participation in promoting local cuisine: “A product cannot become a brand unless we deliberately promote it. When you eat kalembula or kapenta and share that experience, you make it a brand.”

Mutati concluded by urging stakeholders to work together in ensuring that African cuisine becomes both a cultural and economic export.
Managing Director, Rideve Media Dr. Chanda Chipongoma welcomed guests and described the launch as a milestone in African storytelling:
“Tonight, we are not just unveiling a publication; we are presenting a new platform, a new narrative, and a new celebration of who we are as Africans,” Dr. Chanda said.
Dr. Chanda affirmed that A Bite of Africa Magazine will serve as a bridge connecting cultures, communities, and markets through food, lifestyle, innovation, and travel.
Dr. Chanda acknowledged the editorial team led by Elida Nyirenda and partners such as Tastes of Africa Zambia, whose commitment and collaboration have made the publication possible.
The ceremony concluded with the symbolic ribbon cutting, marking the official launch of A Bite of Africa Magazine. Guests were invited to enjoy dishes prepared for the event — a true taste of African innovation in culinary storytelling.
