In honour of the 21 Profound Worriers Players and officials that where involved in a road accident that claimed 9 lives in Chisamba District, the National Heritage and Conservative Commission(NHCC) is erecting a monument worth K600 000.
Speaking at a press conference, Profound Warriors Memorial Monument Chairperson Boni Mubukwanu said the state-of the art historical site will unveiled on Friday, 28th August, 2023.
He said the Golden Valley Agricultural Research Trust(GART) is a preferred destination of the Memorial Monument as it is a spot where the accident occurred in 1980.
“In order to honour the profound Warriors players(that were involved in an accident), we have decided to come up with the Memorial Monument…A massive structure which will be 21 feet from top to bottom. Now why 21feet? It is because 21 people on the where on that bus and each one of them will get a foot of memory. There will be 12 balls at the base representing 12 survivors and their names will be inscribed on the balls,” he said.
Mr. Mubukwanu added that up ended, there will be nine football boots representing the departed souls.
Mr Mubukwanu said there will be several activities between now and Friday, 18th August, 2023, when the Memorial Monument will be unveiled.
He said in February 2023, there will be a chargeable breakfast meeting at the Intercontinental Hotel and in March, there will be two football matches starting with the game between Profound Warriors Madalas and City of Lusaka Madalas.
“The second one will be an inter-team football match,” he said.
Mr Mubukwanu said on the Friday, 28th of April, 2023, there will be a very big auction at late First President Kenneth Kaunda’s memorabilia.
