US Ambassador to Zambia Micheal C. Gonzales has urged the Zambian government to operationalize the Anti Gender Based violence Fund as this is vital in supporting GBV victims.

Mr. Gonzales notes that a number of GBV victims have gone unsupported due to the lack of anti gender based violence fund.

Gonzales explained that matters of sexual assault and Gender based violence are unacceptable and should not be condoned at any level.

Gonzales adds that the perpetrators of sexual assault and Gender Based violence should be clearly identified and be made to account for their action.

Gonzales said this during the official launch of the 2022 16 days of Activism against Gender Based Violence under the the theme Unite Activism to end violence against women and girls.

Speaking at the same event None – Governmental Organizations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) says government decision to scrap off the Ministry of Gender is a clear violation against the women movement.

Grace Sinkamba the Council Board Chair says Zambia requires an effective gender machinery in which issues affecting women, girls, boys can seriously be attended to.

Meanwhile, Labour and Social Security Minister Brenda Tambatamba says government will strengthen the GBV stop centres across Zambia.
